THE CREATION OF AN OIL PAINTING: A DEMONSTRATION PART 1


Recently I’ve been asked to share my painting process. Though my process or technique vary from time to time, depending on what I’m trying to accomplish, I thought I would start with that which I use most often. STEP 1: For this work we’ll use a 16 x 20 stretched canvas. The canvas came pre-primed with two coats of gesso. I have added another. Once this is dry I roughly sketch out with vine charcoal the major subjects. This is done for compositional purposes.
