One of the things I look forward to each spring here in Texas is the blooming of blue bonnets. In a good year you can find them carpeting entire fields and meadows; surrounding live oaks like a sea of deep blue...the white tips acting like reflected light off the crests of rippling waves. Now add a few Indian paintbrush and the sea takes on a different look with dots of bright orange-red scattered here and there...

I've been asked at several festivals about paintings of oil wells and rigs. While it hasn't been a subject I have considered painting before, I thought why not see what I can come up with. The newer derricks and rigs just didn't provide enough inspiration for me to do them justice...ah, but the old wooden derricks with their shanty shack pump houses made interesting subjects. In this painting I wanted to contrast the old buildings against a bright colorful sky to give it a more dramatic effect...

What can you say about the desert? There are so many variables with the effect light has on such places you could probably spend a lifetime just painting the desert. For me, sunsets, sunrises and twilight are the magical times....

Adobe houses and missions scattered throughout the southwest make interesting subjects. I've always found the vision of snow covering desert vegetation fascinating.

As those of you who have been following me for a while know I've always been interested in the southwest and desert. Depending on the time of day or season, you never quite know what to expect...what little gem you may discover. And, of course, we can't forget the skies! Sunsets and sunrises in the desert are simply breathtaking. 'First Light' captures the freshness and calm of morning just as the sun begins to rise...

This painting is # 6 in the 'Tranquil Nights' series. As those of you who have been following me for a while know, I am captivated with nocturnal scenes. I love the subtle play of light from the moon and stars. Add some mist or light fog and you have the setting for 'Misty Nocturne'.

Right out side my window is a beautiful Japanese maple tree in our flower garden. The leaves are so bright red it is stunning to look at. I just had to capture it's beauty in a painting. Of course this is Texas and what better compliment than bluebonnets...
