Meet Monte/Testimonials

Painter of the vast, often dramatic, yet tranquil landscape

ARTIST STATEMENT

Art is a fundamental part of my being. When placing brush to canvas I often get “lost” in the scene I am painting; anxious to see where the next stroke leads. For me each new work is an adventure; little narratives in time and space, nature and beauty. I strive not only to capture that fleeting moment when the light falls just so but also the emotion felt within, creating a connection between artist and viewer. I hope to evoke that sense of a fond moment lost and encourage participation in the story. Where does this path lead? What’s around that bend? What lies beyond the hill?

I believe art is a conversation, not merely shapes and colors, values and lines. It is a journey in discovery for both the artist and the viewer. The most magical moment for me is when that connection is made; when the viewer looks at a painting and says, “I’m there under that tree, I can hear birds chirping and leaves dancing in the breeze; smell the crisp freshness of the air."

There is a part of me in every painting I create. Within every stroke are the melody of my heart and the harmony of my soul. Some have already found this, some have yet to discover it. For those who wish to, I invite you to join me in this journey.

TESTIMONIALS

"Monte Wilson's work is nothing short of breathtaking. I have had the privilege to cross the path of his talent, and without a glimpse of hesitation publishing five of his pieces in the worldwide publication 'A Published Gallery'.

His ability to create atmospheres where color and landscapes suggestively dance together--landscapes that invite one to be within the painting rather than just an observer leaves me in awe of his talent.

Whether one gravitates to his shades of night or the liberation of morning light, or the gentle stillness and solitude of a river bank, one can find a place for themselves to visit within his pieces--akin to portholes of waking dreamscapes...embodied with depth and ambience, capturing and honoring with deep sincerity
the beauty of this planet..."

"Monte, I just want to tell you how much we enjoy your painting ‘Bones of Morn’. Occasionally I glance over at the Painting. Not thinking to get away from the world, I’m surprised to find myself here again; in this very remote place, serene and tranquil, by myself. Something I want because it reminds me of the absolute peace I found as a boy. On a pond on a farm far away in time now and very comfortable in the way those that know themselves are comfortable within themselves. The season is the season of beginnings or endings, the moment of the glance and my state of mind deciding the direction in time. Today the peace of the farm, tomorrow, should I take that glance, perchance another place of peace, back in time. For as the Painting tells stories so too does it invoke dreams, dreams of peace; the peace of the Painting.

I want to convey to you just what this one Painting invokes in me and that the feeling is heartfelt. Your work has impressed me from the first time I saw it some years ago. As owners of several of your paintings, Anita and I truly enjoy and appreciate your vision of the world and, admittedly, have become biased in our view.

As we contemplate your future works we enjoy the anticipation that comes when opening your next newsletter and appreciate the ‘peek’ at what might be the next “Painting”."

"Barbara and I are pleased not only to own some of Monte's artwork, but also to know him personally.  We've enjoyed getting to know Monte and his wife Sue and have them visit our ranch in Palo Pinto County.  Monte's Brazos River painting ‘View From Daybreak Ranch’ is one of our favorites.  We have this oil painting over the fireplace mantle in our master bedroom, and it complements the real view of the river we see from our house.  Monte has a unique ability to capture light and add life to paintings that we don't often see in other artists.  His use of color and contrast gives an extra dimension to his artwork. Thanks Monte for sharing your God-given talent with us.
